The Global Food Crisis :(

I just read an article by John Nichols talking about the world food crisis. A Wisconsin dairy farmer named Jim Goodman was mentioned numerous times. He organizes groups and farm organizations that warn people about this declining problem. He believes that if people would have listened and believed farmers over corporations then they would’ve known about this problem years ago. The food shortages are horrible and due to this many people across the world are starving, malnourished and dying each day. The current global food system is STILL pressuring farmers to produce cash crops for export and alternative fuels rather than grow good healthy food for the local regions. People should also reconize the fact that many biofuels are hurting crop fuels but more importantly harming much livestock because producers can barely afford feed and fertilizer!
I think that we should start following the principal known as “Food Sovereignty” which helps struggling farmers and many hungry people. I think that we should give our farmers a little more credit because after all, they are the ones that help produce the healthy food for our regional stability and our local consumption.
